Understanding your CPAP prescription

In the United States, a CPAP machine is a prescription medical device. That means reputable retailers — including every seller CPAPtoThailand compares — will ask for a valid prescription before they ship a machine, and often before they ship certain supplies such as masks. This is a normal, standard requirement.

What a prescription typically includes

  • The device type (for example, CPAP or auto-adjusting APAP).
  • Pressure settings — a fixed pressure, or a range for an auto-adjusting machine.
  • Prescriber details and the date it was issued.
  • Sometimes a note about humidification or accessories.

How to get a copy

If you already have a diagnosis and an active prescription, you can usually request a copy from the clinic or sleep center that issued it. Most retailers let you upload, email, or fax it, or they will contact your provider with your permission. If you don’t have a current prescription, a licensed clinician is the right starting point — and our after-arrival sleep-doctor network can help with local referrals in Thailand.

Why it matters for delivery to Thailand

A valid prescription is also central to clearing customs under a personal-use exemption in Thailand. Keeping a copy handy helps both the US purchase and the in-country arrival go smoothly. CPAPtoThailand doesn’t store or verify prescriptions — that happens with the retailer and, where needed, our local partners.

This article is for general information only and is not medical advice. CPAP machines require a valid prescription. Consult your clinician about your therapy and settings.
